Gabriel's Gate: Buffalo's Ultimate Sports Bar Experience

The food is consistent, nicely prepared. The Wait staff is very friendly, well-trained, knowledgeable. The prices have jumped up since Covid, like many other places. The menu is deep enough for a pub style eatery. The place is always crowded and loud because it's a really fun place to go. Parking is a challenge.

Love the real wood fireplaces. Multiple operating. The buffalo wings are slamming! We got buffalo mild wings. French fries Labatt Blue light draft beer. The tuna melt was great too on sourdough bread

We waited about 30-45 minutes for a table and were told anything from the fryer would be an additional 45 minutes from when we placed our order. We decided to wait and see what the hype was about. I don't eat meat very often, so I opted to just get a side salad & fries and make the fries "dirty" (buffalo sauce & bleu cheese crumbles on top, and then dipping in bleu cheese dressing & ranch dressing). IT WAS DELICIOUS. My friend ordered wings and said they were really good too. We were sat in the front of the restaurant right next to the fireplace, and the ambiance was so sweet! It was a very romantic setting (even though the person I was with was just a friend), and I would love to go again! Wait- it's worth the wait.

Came here for lunch. Parked on the street with no issue. We had no wait. It got busier after we got seated and ordered our food. The interior was a little dark. Definitely a bar atmosphere. They had a lot of mounted taxidermy animals around and they did dress them up for Halloween. Our waitress was good. We ordered French onion soup and some wings. The soup was good, very cheesy and had good onion flavor. We got the traditional Buffalo wings. The wings were crisp and not over sauced. And we also got some garlic bread with marinara sauce.

Coming from the food TV world, I knew all about the Anchor and Duff's rivalry. I didn't want any of that knowing very well the locals would steer me in the right direction to the best wings besides this infamous tale. I was looking for big and crispy and that's where I was led. Gabriel's Gate was everything I needed in a bar. Rustic with deer heads and other animals hanging on the wall, specifically surrounding the bar. I love animals but for some reason this never bothered me. Chatting with some of the locals while deciding what to get as I sat at the bar was super fun. And in addition to my order of wings, I was told Gabriel's is also known for their French onion soup. Are you KIDDING ME?! Obviously, I got a small one as French onion soup is my jam! Cheesy and tasty; this soup was amazing. The broth was super flavorful. Then came the wings., big, crispy, yet juicy. Mild sausage had a decent amount of heat. I will return back there whenever I get back to Buffalo for sure. Finally a shout out the bartenders who made me feel super at home. I'll bee line here to this location next time I head up for sure.

What a great local find just a walks away from the downtown core. Gabriel's is known for the pub fare among them being their wings!! The ambiance is cozy and dim with lots of fun decor. Our server and overall service was excellent. For food we had their, of course, wings!!! A delicious shareable to start our experience accompanied with a pint of craft beer. As for mains I had their Lexington burger with potato chips.

In a town known for its wings, where it is far too easy for a classic place to lose its soul, Gabriel's Gate shines as a portal to the past and a monument to the form. There is nothing new or novel happening with the wings. I suppose you can try some other flavor sauces, but I stuck with a regular size order, hot and crispy. And that's what I got. 10 wings. 6 flats. 4 drums. Didn't ask for extra flats, but I certainly appreciated the distribution. Flats, as everyone knows, are the better wing segment. Plus it came with both carrot and celery sticks. None of those lazy baby carrots that I've seen elsewhere. Also there was a little pot of chunky, sour cream forward, blue cheese dressing. I feel like I shouldn't even have to mention those little things, but as the price of wings creeps up, many shops have started leaving out the accompaniments and charging for them individually. Times are hard these days for wing lovers. So yeah, they are hella expensive for deep fried flaps of skin and bone with a little meat attached, and tossed with hot sauce. However when wings are good, they are not only worth the price, but also the fat and caloric hit to the metabolism. A fellow next to me at the bar got a double order. 20 wings. Don't do it. For starters, nobody needs 20 wings. But more importantly, there is no way to get through that many without the last ones being cooler and less delicious. Heck, by the time I got through five, mine had cooled substantially. When hot, these were just about perfect. Crisp skin. Tender meat that pulled cleanly off the bone. Well applied sauce with a good kick that left my lips tingling, but wasn't overwhelming. Thanks to the Yelp community for steering me toward "Hot" vs "Medium" as I would typically order at other Buffalo institutions. Did I mention just how freaking charming this place is? The building and staff are simply gems! They are keeping it real, and I appreciate that more than I can say. More than anything, I am looking forward to getting back here with a wing eating partner, so I don't have to take down 10 wings all by my lonesome. Then I might be able to try some other things on the menu too... you know, like fries. Nothing fancy. Just great bar food that has held the standard while others have slipped. It's a rarity, and in my book, worthy of five stars.
